The Companies Act

The Companies Act

The Companies Act came into effect on February 1, 2005. The Act provides the legislative framework which controls the operations of companies and the conduct of business in Jamaica.

An Agency of the Ministry, the Companies Office of Jamaica (COJ), administers the Companies Act and therefore has responsibility for the registration, monitoring and regulation of companies. The Commerce Division of the Ministry also has responsibility for administration of the Companies Act, as well as to monitor the activities of the Companies Office of Jamaica.
