Minister without Portfolio in the Ministry of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries, the Hon J.C. Hutchinson, is encouraging farmers in St Elizabeth to embrace innovation in their agricultural practices. The Minister commended the farmers for being leaders in the sector and encouraged them to continue to embrace new products and technologies.
Minister Hutchinson was speaking at the Duwest Soluble Crop Nutrition Solution Launch, held at Junction Guesthouse in St. Elizabeth on March 14. The launch, which included workshops on how to use the products, had several farmers from across the parish in attendance.
“We need to increase our capacity to produce adequate and wholesome food to ensure the health and well-being of our people,” said Minister Hutchinson, while noting that the launch of the products was another example of H&L Agro’s commitment to ensuring that farmers were exposed to the best products available to improve production and profitability.
Hutchinson expressed appreciation to H&L Agro for its $130-m annual contribution to the Ministry’s onion and Irish potato programmes, providing input and training for farmers islandwide
He reiterated the importance of agriculture to the growth of the country and encouraged farmers to become part of an organisation as this was integral to ensuring a structured agricultural sector.
Alava Corzo, Technical Manager, Westrade, in giving an overview of the products - Solu Feed, Multi Feed and Liquid Feed - said that they were balanced nutritionally and chemically. He further explained that the company had a programme that addressed the necessary requirements for each crop according to their growth stage.
