The Micro Investment Development Agency (MIDA) was established in 1991 as a limited liability company to assist the Government of Jamaica in taking a focused approach to the development of the micro enterprise sector.
MIDA has a mandate to promote sustainable growth in the micro enterprise sector through the provision of financing and financial services. Since inception, the agency has raised some $650.0 million for the sector. From this pool of funds the agency has provided approximately $3 billion in credit to finance over 33,000 businesses while creating and/or sustaining some 56,000 part time and full time jobs.
The Agency’s vision is to build a revolving pool of startup capital and cheap credit funds to assist new and existing Micro, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSMEs) to create wealth and generate employment within the sector and to act as fund managers for the Government of Jamaica credit funds earmarked for on-lending to the Micro, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSMEs) through a network of existing Approved Lending Agencies with solid records of success, progressive and competitive thinking.
As the "business" Ministry, we are the key driver and thought leader for facilitating investments in the economy and preparing local businesses and entreprenuers to take advantage of Jamaica's entry into the global supply chain.
We have, therefore, placed much energy and enthusiam into the development of this website to provide timely information on the Ministry, our agencies and programmes.
