Work Permits
Direct portfolio responsibility for work permits rests within the Ministry of Labour and Social Security. However, a Committee of public sector representatives meets weekly to examine work permit applications. The Committee has representatives from the Labour Ministry, the Ministry of Industry, Investment and Commerce (MIIC), the Ministry of Health and Environment, the Office of the Prime Minister (Telecommunications), the Ministry of Tourism, the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries and the Mines and Geology Department of the Ministry of Energy and Mining.
The Commerce Division of the Ministry comments on applications for work permits submitted by businesses engaged in commercial activities. MIIC is represented by: Mr. Clarence Frater (cfrater@miic.gov.jm)
