Chile and Jamaica to explore possible bilateral relations on agriculture

Chilean Minister of Agriculture, Carlos Furche, has expressed the hope of exploring increased bilateral relations with Jamaica in the area of agriculture.
The Minister shared his thoughts with Minister without Portfolio in the Ministry of Industry, Agriculture and Fisheries (MICAF), the Hon William J.C. Hutchinson during, a courtesy call at MICAF’s Hope Gardens Offices on Thursday, June 15, 2017.
The Ministers exchanged thoughts and ideas on a number of agriculture related issues, including the impact of climate change, irrigation, food safety and security and value chain development in the sector, as well as the use of technology and linkages of agriculture to other economic sectors.
The Chilean Agriculture Minister, who is a candidate in the upcoming elections for the director general position at the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA), stressed the need for continued regional co-operation and south-south collaboration on agriculture.
