The 67th annual Denbigh Agricultural, Industrial and Food Show held August 4-6 at the showground in May Pen, Clarendon, has come in for high praises.

Prime Minister the Most Hon Andrew Holness described the grounds as beautiful and the livestock impressive.  Mr. Holness also praised the organisers and show participants, noting that the stalls he saw during his tour demonstrated that agriculture was strong and robust in Jamaica, with great opportunities, and great possibilities.

The Prime Minister, along with Minister of Industry Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries, the Hon Audley Shaw, Minister without portfolio, Hon J.C. Hutchinson, and President of the Jamaica Agricultural Society, Lenworth Fulton, welcomed His Excellency Uhuru Kenyatta, President of the Republic of Kenya, to the Denbigh Show on Day 3, Tuesday August 6, Independence Day in Jamaica.

President Kenyatta who along with his delegation was on the island for a three-day State visit said he was pleased to have participated in the region’s premier agricultural show.

“The quality of agricultural produce and livestock that we have seen is quite outstanding,” he said.

Himself a livestock farmer, President Kenyatta noted that one of the things that interested him most was Jamaica’s development of a livestock breed that was adaptive to the climate and to the pasture conditions of the country. He suggested partnership in this area between Kenya and Jamaica.

Held under the theme “Aligning farming decisions with climatic conditions”, the 67th Denbigh Agricultural, Industrial and Food Show opened on Sunday, the Governor General’s Day, with Monday being the Minister of Industry Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries’ Day and Tuesday being the Prime Minister’s Day.
