Gov’t must embrace AI, says Hill
MIIC Author

Industry, Investment and Commerce Minister Senator Aubyn Hill says the government will have to get a grasp of artificial intelligence (AI) and its applications in a bid to craft sound policy.
Mr. Hill says with the cross-cutting implications of AI to business and all sectors, the policy framework cannot be left behind.
“Look, it’s here. You’re going to have to embrace it, you don’t fear it. You have to deal with it. It has challenges, some of it might not be good. We as government policymakers must understand it quickly, make sure we have good policies in place, copy the policies from elsewhere we can’t create all of it,” he urged.
Noting that not even Google CEO Sundar Pichai can predict where AI will lead, Mr. Hill said Jamaica will just have to try to stay ahead of the technology and use it to “harness, to uplift and empower our business community”.
