Trade facilitation is central to MIIC’s efforts to expand Jamaica’s participation in regional and international markets while ensuring efficiency, transparency, and compliance in trade transactions. This portfolio area is led by the Ministry’s International Trade Unit (ITU) and the Trade Facilitation Unit (TFU), which guide policy, coordinate across agencies, and ensure adherence to global trade obligations. Operationally, the Trade Board Limited (JTBL) regulates import and export activities, administers licences, and ensures compliance with trade agreements. The Jamaica National Agency for Accreditation (JANAAC) complements this role by accrediting laboratories, inspection, and certification bodies, thereby guaranteeing that Jamaican products and services meet international benchmarks. Together, these entities reduce barriers to trade, strengthen credibility, and position Jamaica as a reliable and competitive trading partner.
