…21 years defending producers in Jamaica
The Anti-dumping and Subsidies Commission (ADSC or Commission) is celebrating its 21st Anniversary of administering Trade Remedies in defence of Producers of goods in Jamaica.
By Proclamation of His Excellency, The Most Honourable Sir Patrick Linton Allen, ON, GCMG, CD, KSt.J, Governor-General of Jamaica, the ADSC will also commemorate the first National Trade Remedies Day in Jamaica on 28 October 2021.
The Commission is a Portfolio Agency of the Ministry of Industry, Investment and Commerce (MIIC) and Jamaica’s Trade Remedies Investigating Authority. Since its inception in 2000, the chief responsibility of the Agency is the administration of Jamaica’s Trade Remedies legislation, in keeping with the relevant WTO Agreements. Jamaica, through the work of the ADSC, uses the measures carved out in these agreements, called Trade Remedies, to defend its domestic industries against injury caused by imports which are priced below their normal value or subsidised by governments of the exporting country. The damaging effects of sudden, sharp increases in import volumes of products may also be addressed by the work of the Agency.
The ADSC is committed to helping producers and manufacturers of goods in Jamaica to survive and thrive in global trade as they face the pressures of globalisation and related risks of unfair competition from some imports. To that same end, the ADSC also assists exporters in defending their products in overseas markets and strategically take advantage of supply gaps which occur after trade enforcement actions abroad. The Commission will celebrate and inform businesses and the public of its service to producers in Jamaica between 25-31 October 2021 in the following virtual events:
