Major endorsements for new state minister in Ministry of Industry, Investment and Commerce
SEVERAL of the island’s top business leaders have welcomed the decision of Prime Minister Dr Andrew Holness to appoint Delano Seiveright minister of state in the Ministry of Industry, Investment and Commerce (MIIC).
Among those who have endorsed Seiveright is president of the Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica Metry Seaga, who said, “The business community welcomes Delano’s appointment. He has a record of listening, engaging, and pushing forward with urgency. His proven ability to work with leaders like Prime Minister Holness, Minister [Edmund] Bartlett, and Minister Aubyn Hill is exactly what is needed as we focus on strengthening Jamaica’s competitiveness and unlocking new opportunities for growth.”
This was echoed by PB Scott, chairman and CEO of the Musson Group, who argued that the former minister of state in the Ministry of Tourism has proven that he is not only a thinker but a doer.
“His record at tourism shows a sharp focus on execution, international engagement, and creating opportunities for Jamaicans. With Minister Aubyn Hill’s leadership and Delano’s energy, the Ministry of Industry, Investment and Commerce is in capable hands to advance growth across the Caribbean and Latin America,” said Scott.
In the meantime, regional tourism heavyweight, executive chairman of Sandals Resorts International Adam Stewart said Seiveright brought fresh energy and clarity of purpose to the sector alongside Bartlett, “and the results speak for themselves”.
Stewart, who is also executive chairman of the Jamaica Observer, added, “Delano’s ability to engage international partners while strengthening local linkages was a game-changer. I am confident that in his new role at Industry, Investment and Commerce he will bring the same no-nonsense drive that gets things done.”
Other local and international players in tourism also applauded Seiveright for his work in the sector and expressed confidence that this will translate to the benefit of Jamaica in his new role.
“Delano understands the importance of innovation and culture in driving Jamaica’s economy. He worked tirelessly in tourism to open doors for businesses, and I’ve always admired his straightforward approach. He will no doubt bring the same energy and focus to this new portfolio,” said Joe Bogdanovich, CEO of Downsound Entertainment.
Meanwhile, Abel Matutes, owner of the Spanish Palladium Hotel Group, said during his interactions with the new Member of Parliament for St Andrew North Central he displayed demonstrated professionalism, energy, and a deep understanding of international business dynamics.
“He is a strong advocate for Jamaica, and I am certain he will be equally effective in advancing investment and commerce for the country,” argued Matutes.
For his part, CEO of the JDV Group Shlomo Shemesh said he has found Seiveright to be a straight-talking and practical partner who understands both the local and international business landscape.
“His time in tourism showed he is not afraid to tackle challenges head-on. Jamaica’s investment climate will benefit greatly from his energy at MIIC,” said Shemesh.
Responding to the endorsements Seiveright told the Observer that he is grateful to the prime minister for the opportunity to serve as minister of state in MIIC under the leadership of Hill.
“I approach this new role with humility and a deep sense of responsibility, fully aware of the importance of this ‘super ministry’ to Jamaica’s economic growth and competitiveness.
“My focus will remain on working tirelessly, in partnership with all stakeholders, to ensure that the policies and programmes of Government continue to deliver real opportunities and tangible benefits for the Jamaican people. It is an honour to serve, and I am committed to giving my very best as always,” said Seiveright.
The Ministry of Industry, Investment and Commerce is responsible for advancing trade, investment, and business facilitation for Jamaica.
