Minister of Industry, Investment and Commerce, Hon. Audley Shaw, speaking at the 19th Annual Shirley Playfair Lecture being hosted by the Fair Trading Commission (FTC), under the theme “Integrating Competition Law and Consumer Protection Law: Optimizing Consumer Welfare”, on Wednesday, December 8, 2021. The Shirley Playfair Lecture series is an annual public lecture, which focuses on Competition Law and Policy.

Others participating at the event are Executive Director, FTC, David Miller, who gave the welcome and closing remarks; Moderator & Chairman, FTC, Donovan White; and deilivering the lecture is Professor of Law at the Wayne State University and former member of The Competition Authority of Ireland and Director of its Mergers Division, Stephen Calkins.

With the merger of the FTC and Consumer Affairs Commission well underway, the lecture serves as a timely and relevant tool for the business community, consumers, policymakers and the staff of both agencies.

The Ministry

Welcome to the official website of the Ministry of Industry, Investment and Commerce.

The Ministry of Industry, Investment and Commerce is described as Jamaica's "Business Ministry." It's mandate is to lead the development of policies that will create growth and jobs, while achieving social inclusion and consumer protection. The Ministry, working its stakeholders is primarily responsible for business policy development, monitoring and evaluation, while giving direction and oversight to a cluster of implementing departments and agencies.
