Jamaica’s Minister of Industry, Investment and Commerce, Senator the Hon. Aubyn Hill, has led a second Trade Mission to Guyana with over 70 members representing 40 companies forming the Jamaica Delegation. This Trade Mission to Guyana was very privileged to have the Vice President of Guyana, the Hon. Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo address a special question and answer session with members of the Jamaican delegation. There were business sectors including construction, finance, manufacturing, education, cyber security and technology that were represented by the business leaders of these companies.

“The goal of this mission is to drive exports and investments, while emphasizing the opportunities for strategic business partnership to help grow the economy” noted Minister Aubyn Hill.

In a special session with the Jamaican delegation on Tuesday, January 24, Vice President Jagdeo welcomed the potential business partnerships and outlined the various steps the Government of Guyana has taken to encourage foreign investment in the housing construction industry and the importation of construction raw materials.  Vice President Jagdeo also encouraged discussions between Guyanese and Jamaican businesses and to take advantage of existing incentives and upcoming contract opportunities.

In answering questions posed to him by the delegation, Vice President Jagdeo outlined where the Government sees Guyana in the next five (5) years as they intend to increase significantly infrastructure, housing stock and hotel room count while decreasing unemployment through carefully drafted legislation. Also, Vice President Jadgeo outlined plans for the government to deliver 50,000 plots of land over the next few years for housing development.

In closing the session, Minister Hill thanked Vice President Jagdeo for addressing the delegation as they both agreed that there are great opportunities for Jamaican companies to partner with Guyanese businesses.

The second Ministerial Trade Mission was sponsored in part by itel and Jamaica Broilers and organized by the Ministry of Industry, Investment and Commerce, the Jamaica Promotions Corporation (JAMPRO), the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and the Guyana Manufacturing and Services Association.
