Gov’t Commits $70 Million to Help Trelawny Farmers Transport Sugar Cane

Rising hunger and obesity, climate change and rural poverty; these will be the main issues of the 35th Regional Conference of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. Agriculture ministry repairs farm roads

By the end of the 2017/2018 financial year, several farm roads in the parishes of Manchester and St. Elizabeth, covering 19.7km and valued at $81m, will be rehabilitated by the Ministry of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries (MICAF), through the Rural Agricultural Development Authority (RADA). Major Investors to Cultivate Onions

The Government is in discussions with two major investors for the planting of over 2,000 acres of onions as part of a project to boost supplies for the domestic and export markets. Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries Minister, Hon. Karl Samuda, says he will be seeking additional funding in the 2018/19 Budget to repair more cane and farm roads, as well as to acquire equipment for small farmers.
