Event Held to Showcase Jamaican Craft

The inaugural Craft and Coffee 2025, held on Tuesday (March 11), showcased the creative works of Jamaican artisans that can tap into the global US$906.8 billion handicraft market.
The event was conceived in response to the need to identify innovative approaches tailored to the needs of the craft industry of Jamaica and aligned with the strategic objective of the Ministry of Industry, Investment and Commerce to encourage and build an internationally competitive sector.
Addressing the launch of the initiative at the ROK Hotel in Kingston, Industry, Investment and Commerce Minister, Senator the Hon. Aubyn Hill, said the event seeks to celebrate the ingenuity, culture and resilience that define Jamaican craft.
“Craft has long been a vital part of Jamaica’s identity and heritage. From the vibrancy of our visual arts to the intricacy of our handmade products, Jamaican craft tells the story of our people, our culture, and our very rich history. We know that with the right investment in product development, marketing and innovation, the craft sector has the potential to drive employment, increase exports and profits,” he said.
For her part, Acting Senior Director, Industry Division in the Ministry, Lliana Blake, said from the growing demand for authentic and sustainable products to the potential for craft to contribute to Jamaica’s economic development, there are many opportunities in the sector.
“We are committed to supporting craft enterprises to put their best foot forward to support commercial market opportunities. The event is designed to address some of the challenges facing craft producers, while also capitalising on the opportunities that exist. We have placed at the disposal of our participants here, the necessary information to support the building of a resilient craft industry and be able to respond to the demands of the export markets,” she said.
The event featured a panel discussion, an information exhibition, networking, and a Product Quality Awards Showcase, designed to encourage craft artisans and enterprises to tap into opportunities in the burgeoning global market for craft.
The Product Quality Awards Showcase saw local artisans compete for the titles of Best Souvenir Product, Best Interior Product, Best Corporate Gift, Best Jewellery Product, and Best Textile Product.
Blue Mountain Coffee samples were also handed out.
