Greater Focus on Agro-Industries

Minister of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries, Hon. Karl Samuda, has signaled the Government’s intention to move from a focus on mere primary production in agriculture to a much greater focus on agro-industries, as a critical plank in the country’s growth and job creation thrust.
Making his contribution to the sectoral presentation in Parliament on June 7, 2016, the Minister noted that consolidated in his Ministry are the major productive elements of the real economy, spanning agriculture, the distributive trade, and manufacturing.
According to Minister Samuda when combined these sectors contribute approximately one-third of the country’s GDP and employ 45% of Jamaica’s labour force.
