Investment Minister Outlines Jamaican Opportunities To London-Based Caribbean Council

Minister of Industry, Investment and Commerce, the Honourable Audley Shaw, has detailed investment opportunities in Jamaica to the Caribbean Council, a London-based organization which supports trade, investment and development for a select group of major investors across the Caribbean and Latin America. The event was part of the organization’s meet the Minister Series of virtual events.
Addressing the virtual gathering of high level UK based business executives on Thursday, October 28, the Minister highlighted current and potential investment ventures in Agriculture, Logistics, Manufacturing, Renewable Energy, Global Digital Services and Tourism.
Minister Shaw also emphasized that the National Investment Policy (NIP) which Cabinet recently approved, will enhance the business environment and reinforce the government’s commitment to investors.
Some opportunities he outlined include Mango Agro Park, a Public Private Partnership (PPP) programme where investors can lease 50-acre plots to plant mangoes on land originally used for sugar cane farming, as well as an upcoming opportunity to invest in various forms of Renewable Energy, which will shortly be advertised through the Office of Utility Regulation.
He also shared that there are current opportunities Global Digital Services and Business Process Outsourcing such as nearshoring, shared services, legal process outsourcing, knowledge process outsourcing and software development.
The meeting was facilitated by the London office of JAMPRO, Jamaica’s investment arm.
