The Jamaica National Agency for Accreditation (JANAAC) will commemorate its 15th anniversary with an awards ceremony slated for The Jamaica Pegasus hotel in New Kingston on Monday, December 4, starting 7:00 p.m.
The service-led organisation was established in 2007 and commenced operations in 2008.
The ceremony, which will be held under the theme ‘Celebrating Quality’, will see awards being presented to JANAAC employees, Accreditation Council and Accreditation Evaluation Committee members as well as the agency’s Technical Advisory Committees and other subcommittee members, all of whom played an integral role in the entity’s success over the years.
Awards will also be presented to the National Environment and Planning Agency’s Laboratory, and the Plant Quarantine Produce Inspection Branch within the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Mining.
These conformity assessment bodies were recently accredited to the ISO/IEC 17025:2017 and the ISO/IEC 17020:2012 Standards, respectively.
Keynote speaker will be Minister of Industry, Investment and Commerce, Senator the Hon. Aubyn Hill.
JANAAC’s Director of Strategic Planning, Business Development and Promotions, Cassetta Green, who participated in a Jamaica Information Service (JIS) ‘Think Tank’ on Tuesday (November 28), indicated that awards will also be presented to the “strategic partners who have, through their own contributions, made the success and growth of JANAAC possible”.
Additionally, she said ‘Rising Star’ awards will be presented to entities that have just commenced the accreditation process.
Entities displaying exemplary commitment in conforming with accreditation requirements and those showing outstanding dedication to quality and maintaining accreditation requirements will, correspondingly, be awarded under the ‘Legacy’ and ‘Zenith’ categories.
Ms. Green further advised that several laboratories and entities “that have demonstrated, through their accredited services, how they are impacting export and the growth here in Jamaica” will also be inducted into the JANAAC Accreditation Hall of Fame.
The Director told JIS News that recipients will additionally receive awards under the ‘Ignite’ category, in recognition of the conformity assessment body providing significant export sector support.
She said the anniversary marks a significant milestone in JANAAC’s journey as an accreditation body.
“Celebrating our 15th anniversary allows us to reflect on the incredible journey we have had in shaping and elevating industry standards through our accreditation and technical training programmes,” she said.
Against this background, Ms. Green said the agency is “proud” to work with laboratories and inspection bodies across various sectors.
Persons interested in purchasing tickets to attend the event may call 876-968-7790 or 876-968-7799 for further details.
