JIPO Participates in Assemblies of the Member States of WIPO

Lilyclaire Bellamy, Executive Director of the Jamaica Intellectual Property Office (JIPO) participated in the Sixty-Third Series of Meetings of the Assembles of Member States of WIPIO, July 14-22, 2022 in Geneva, Switzerland.
She shared that “the government of Jamaica has historically been committed to finding a way for persons in the MSME sector to have access to finance by using intellectual property as collateral for loans.”
She said JIPO which is an agency of the MIIC, was able to identify and obtain funding under the “Compete Caribbean Programme” which is a partnership of the financial institution of the Inter-American Development Bank and Caribbean Development Bank, to fund the project for Strengthening the Intellectual Property Ecosystem to increase Innovation, Competitiveness and Growth of MSMEs.
Also in attendance were Ambassador Cheryl Spencer of the Permanent Mission of Jamaica to the Office of the UN, Geneva, Darren Tang, Director General of WIPO, Hasan Kleib, Deputy Director General of WIPO, Beatriz Amorim-Borher, Head of Regional and National Development Sector, Carol Simpson, Head, Section for Caribbean Division for Latin America and the Caribbean.
