Olivia “Babsy” Grange (third left), cricket legend and entrepreneur Christopher “Chris” Gayle (right), and Dancehall Entertainer, Tanto Black, at the official launch of Rich Rum by Triple Gold Rums Limited at the AC Hotel Kingston, on Wednesday, July 8.
The launch of Rich Rum by Triple Gold Rums Limited signals Jamaica’s growing capacity to produce premium, value-added products for regional and international markets, says State Minister in the Ministry of Industry, Investment and Commerce, Hon. Delano Seiveright.
Speaking at the official launch of the premium Jamaican rum brand at the AC Hotel Kingston on Wednesday, July 8, Mr. Seiveright said Jamaica’s internationally recognised reputation for quality products and improving business environment, position the country to develop more globally successful consumer brands.
Congratulating cricket legend and entrepreneur, Christopher “Chris” Gayle, on the venture, Mr. Seiveright described it as a major vote of confidence in Jamaican enterprise and manufacturing.
“Chris Gayle has spent decades building one of the most recognisable personal brands in international sport. Today, he is leveraging that global reputation to build a Jamaican-owned business with international ambition. That is significant for brand Jamaica,” he pointed out.
The State Minister added that while “Chris could easily have endorsed someone else’s product, he instead invested in creating a Jamaican brand rooted in quality, authenticity and export potential”.
Mr. Seiveright acknowledged that every successful Jamaican brand contributes to economic growth by expanding manufacturing, creating jobs and earning foreign exchange. He expressed hope that this venture will inspire more Jamaicans to pursue bold ideas and niche businesses capable of competing on the world stage.
“This is exactly the type of value-added manufacturing we want to see more of in Jamaica. We already produce products respected across the world, from our premium rums and Blue Mountain Coffee to our food products and manufacturing output. Rich Rum adds another exciting chapter to that story,” said Mr. Seiveright.
Speaking directly to local entrepreneurs, he encouraged them to capitalise on Jamaica’s strong country brand by developing distinctive products capable of competing in premium niche markets.
“The global marketplace increasingly rewards authenticity, quality and compelling stories. Jamaica already has one of the strongest country brands anywhere in the world. Our challenge now is to convert that reputation into even more successful Jamaican-owned businesses and globally recognised products,” he said.
Rich Rum enters the market with three premium expressions, Overproof, Premium and Dark, all produced using authentic Jamaican ingredients and with a clear focus on international growth.
