Margaret Freeman

Mrs. Margaret James-Freeman is a seasoned audit professional serving in the government sector.

Her public service career began in 1994 at the Ministry of Mining and Energy, Mines and Geology Division, where she was assigned to the General Registry and Mining Registry for nine years. In 2003, she transitioned to the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, joining the Internal Audit Unit as an Audit Assistant. Over the next 17 years, she steadily advanced through the ranks, ultimately serving as Audit Manager/Coordinator.

Following the 2020 demerger of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries and the Ministry of Industry, Investment and Commerce (MIIC), Mrs. James-Freeman was reassigned to MIIC, where she currently serves as Chief Audit Executive.

In this role, she has led numerous audit engagements that have uncovered significant findings, resulting in millions of dollars in savings and substantial recovery of losses to the Government. She has also spearheaded special investigations that revealed multiple instances of non-compliance across Ministries, Divisions, and Agencies (MDAs) for which she has provided guidance and recommended corrective actions to enforce compliance.

Mrs. James-Freeman holds a Master’s Degree in Computer-Based Management Information Systems from the University of the West Indies (UWI) and a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from the University College of the Caribbean (UCC). She also possesses certifications in Audit Techniques and IT Audit.
