State Minister in the Ministry of Industry, Investment and Commerce, Hon. Dr. Norman Dunn, has lauded the Honey Bun Foundation’s New Business Curriculum and training programme.
Under the programme, the Honey Bun Foundation partnered with private entities that provided scholarships to 18 small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs). The 18 SMEs were able to access training in the ‘Create your Strategic Roadmap’ curriculum with 14 completing the training successfully.
Speaking at the virtual graduation ceremony on Thursday, September 1, 2020, Minister Dunn said that “the Honey Bun Foundation is actually preparing persons and businesses in particular, for this new world that we are in as COVID-19 has changed everything and the way we do business.”
“I want to congratulate the Foundation on this initiative. We want to see more of this kind of partnership between the public and private sectors. This is a model that I would like to see spread across the country, which has to be done with a sense of urgency,” the Minister stated.
Minister Dunn said that the example being set by the Honey Bun Foundation should be a source of inspiration to corporate Jamaica.
He noted further that the programme represents the Foundation’s unique value proposition of developing unique, sustainable models for business, and is in full alignment with several national and growth plans and policies of the government.
“Training of MSMEs will certainly open many doors of opportunities, most notably, access to financing, which has dodged the sector for some time, and has hampered their growth and development. This is a welcome initiative which will be used as a roadmap for the success of our SMEs, to help them grow their business as they manoeuver the economic storm created by the COVID-19 pandemic, and rebuild the Jamaican economy,” Minister Dunn added.
The New Business Curriculum is based on 12 critical areas in business, and was delivered digitally. It included modules in Marketing, Market Research, Corporate Structure, Human Resource, Productivity, Finance, Venture Capital, E-Commerce and Export.
