Minister of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries, Hon. Audley Shaw on April 30, met with an Israeli delegation of Agriculture and Water Experts at his New Kingston offices. The delegation is on a fact finding mission to Jamaica.
Minister Shaw and the delegation held discussions on the possibilities for cooperation in water, agriculture and domestic security. The team is also looking at Vernamfield in Clarendon as a potential logistics hub facility.
Speaking during the courtesy call, Minister Shaw called for both sides to work toward the opening up of channels through which to advance trade and, the strengthening of bilateral partnership between the two countries.
“I can see all the potential for cooperation in a variety of fields that relate to our economy. What we want to do is to promote trade and business between Jamaica and Israel and, the strengthening of the bilateral partnership between the two countries moving forward as you seek to invest in our agricultural sector. We have a vast amount of arable lands, particularly, the sugar lands. These lands are ready for use. We have to look at putting in industrial crops which can be substituted for sugar, as sugar is now on the decline. We have to find other ways and means of putting these lands into meaningful production”, said Minister Shaw.
The delegation included Raanan Katzir, Director, SACOG, Sustainable Agriculture Consulting Group and Ido Rosolio, CEO, Telemenia Ltd.
