Ministers Discuss Issues Facing Cane Farmers

Minister of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries, Hon. Karl Samuda, along with Minister without Portfolio, Hon. J. C. Hutchinson, and Permanent Secretary Donovan Stanberry today (March 22, 2016) met with members of the All-Island Cane Farmers Association at the Ministry’s New Kingston office.
Among the issues discussed were the future of the Monymusk and Long Pond sugar factories; the decline (“dive”) in the price of sugar; the ongoing problem of cane fires, particularly in Westmoreland, Hanover; and the need for financing.
