New Agriculture Minister says innovation and technology to play role in Ministry’s work and agricultural sector

Newly appointed Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, Hon. Floyd Green, says innovation and technology will play a critical role in executing the work of the Ministry and, by extension, the development of the agricultural sector.
“If we have an Agriculture Ministry that is at the cutting-edge in technology, technology management, data management and mining and using that data to guide its decisions, then the agriculture sector will be a far advanced sector,” he said.
The Minister was addressing the Ministry’s staff at its Hope Gardens offices in Kingston on September 17.
He urged staff members to come forward with new ideas and suggestions to advance agriculture and fisheries, emphasizing his strong belief in partnerships.
“Don’t be afraid to let me know what you think. I believe the only way we can do well is if we come together as a team. My only concern is that everybody is doing their best at what they are tasked to do,” he stated.
On September 11, Minister Green was among 19 appointees to the Cabinet by Prime Minister, the Most Hon. Andrew Holness.
Meanwhile, in his remarks to staff, Permanent Secretary, Dermon Spence informed that he will continue to serve the Agriculture and Fisheries and Industry, Investment and Commerce Ministries until further advised.
