MIIC Author
Minister of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries, Hon. Karl Samuda says there is no indication of contamination in the samples of rice submitted by Member of Parliament for South East St. Ann, Lisa Hanna earlier this week.
Ms. Hanna submitted separate samples of cooked and uncooked rice to the National Compliance and Regulatory Authority (NCRA) on Wednesday, January 11 and Thursday, January 12.
Minister Samuda says both sets of samples were submitted to the Bureau of Standards Jamaica for thorough testing which revealed no evidence of plastic or unusual behavior in the samples.
The samples were subjected to starch, moisture content, floating and flame tests as well as Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) analyses.
Ms. Hanna has been notified of the results of the tests.
