The Jamaica Business Development Corporation’s (JBDC’S) Things Jamaican e-commerce website is being revamped.
Reconstruction of the site commenced earlier this year and is slated to conclude by December.
Things Jamaican Limited is the JBDC’s retail arm, which provides market access and retailing opportunities focused on promoting and building ‘Brand Jamaica’.
JBDC Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Valerie Veira, told JIS News that the Corporation regularly seeks to align its products with current technological developments.
“You always have to refresh the system, as there are new developments, technologically, that can improve what already exists. We want to improve how we attract people to the site and keep them there. So, we have to go back to the drawing board regularly to ensure that we keep increasing users of the site,” she explained.
Ms. Veira said the JBDC is committed to the ongoing improvement of its products and services.
“We want our products to be at the top end of [the] quality and dependability [spectrum], so it is a big undertaking, but we want to ensure that the support system is improving consistently. We see this [website] overhaul as a big opportunity because once you go that route, you are creating more business for our entrepreneurs,” she indicated.
The CEO said the website’s reconstruction also forms part of the Corporation’s focus on the creative industry, in terms of providing stakeholders with more opportunities to showcase their products and services.
More than 2,000 products, provided by Things Jamaican’s 423 clients, are offered through the website.
Consumers can shop for items on the website at https://thingsjamaicanshopping.com, under the categories aromatherapy, fashion, accessories, Fi Wi (Our) Tings, Home Accents, Nyammings, Literature, Pikni (Kids) Tings, and Yaad Tings.
The JBDC, which was established 20 years ago, is the Government’s agency that assists in the sustainable creation and development of Jamaica’s micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs).
