Trade Board Limited sponsors Trade Agreements Award at JMEA’s M&E Awards Gala

The Trade Board Limited (The Jamaica Trade Board) sponsored the Jamaica Trade Board Award for Champion Medium Exporter in Manufacturing through Trade Agreements, as part of its ongoing commitment to boosting Jamaica’s export sector.
The award was part of the prestigious Jamaica Manufacturers and Exporters Association’s (JMEA’s) Manufacturers and Exporters (M&E) Awards, held at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel on Saturday, September 28, 2024.
The award, which recognizes outstanding achievement in the utilization of trade agreements by Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) with total export sales of US$500,000 to US$3 Million, was won by PA Benjamin Manufacturing Company Limited, renowned for producing and exporting Jamaican-made products for over a century.
Christopher Powell, Director & Factory Manager at PA Benjamin Manufacturing Company Ltd, accepted the award on behalf of the company, which was presented by Senator Aubyn Hill, Minister of Industry, Investment and Commerce (MIIC).
In presenting the award, Minister Hill emphasized the significance of P.A. Benjamins’ long-standing contribution to Jamaica’s economy: “The presentation of the Jamaica Trade Board Award for Champion Medium Exporter in Manufacturing through Trade Agreements to PA Benjamins highlights the importance of producing high-quality goods that can compete on the international stage. Their dedication to increasing productivity, driving profitability, and creating jobs over the past 145 years showcases the essential role manufacturers play in building a prosperous Jamaica. PA Benjamins’ success strengthens our export capabilities and reflects an unwavering commitment of Jamaican industries to excel both locally and globally.”
The sponsorship of this award marks a significant milestone for The Trade Board Limited, further aligning with MIIC’s mission to facilitate export growth and build the capacity of Jamaican businesses to access international markets. Dr (Maj Ret’d) Hugh Blake, Trade Administrator/CEO of The Trade Board Limited stated, that “sponsoring this award reaffirms our commitment to recognizing and supporting Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) that use the trade agreements that the country is party to.”

The Jamaica Trade Board Award for Champion Medium Exporter in Manufacturing through Trade Agreements represents the organisation’s continuous efforts in increasing awareness about the benefits of utilizing trade agreements for export, especially amongst MSMEs. The MSME sector currently represents 34% of Jamaica’s employed labour force and contributes 44% of the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
Trade Agreements facilitate easier and more cost-effective trade across borders by reducing tariffs and other barriers. The Trade Board Limited is the custodian of nine of the eleven trade agreements that Jamaica is party to, helping local businesses establish new opportunities and expand their international reach.
