Trinidad Increases its Order of Jamaican Bananas

Minister of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries, Hon. Karl Samuda has welcomed news that Trinidad and Tobago has increased its weekly order of Jamaican bananas.
Jamaica began exporting bananas to the eastern Caribbean island in December following the signing of a six month contract. Jamaica currently sends one container or about 900 boxes of bananas to Trinidad each week.
Minister Samuda, who inspected the first batch of bananas to be shipped to Trinidad on December 21, said the development is great news.
“Just one month ago we were packing the first container of bananas to send to Trinidad and we have already received word that they want three containers a week. It means that our farmers are producing a quality product. This is but a sign of things to come in agriculture,” said Minister Samuda.
The government has been working to consistently increase the exportation of bananas through the Banana Export Expansion Programme.
