Minister of Industry, Investment and Commerce,  Hon. Audley Shaw, says the Government will continue to work towards implementing the National Five-Year Agribusiness Strategy.

Making his contribution to the 2021/22 Sectoral Debate in the House of Representatives on Tuesday (May 11), Mr. Shaw said the Strategy aims to establish a modern and profitable agribusiness sector in Jamaica.

It is also geared towards implementing social and economic transformation of the rural economy with relevant business models and supporting ecosystems that function to ensure food and nutritional security.

Mr. Shaw said work on the Strategy will continue through the Ministry of Industry, Investment and Commerce and the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries.

“The Food Security and Agribusiness Council (FSAC), chaired by me and Minister (Floyd) Green, along with the PSOJ’s Chair of their Agriculture Committee, Matthew Lyn, was established to drive the implementation of the strategy. The strategy comprises programmes and activities designed to address the challenges inhibiting the expansion of the agribusiness industry and infusing the leveraging of advancements in agriculture,” he said.
