Gov’t and EU sign consultancy agreement to review sugar industry model

Government and the European Commission signed a consultancy agreement for the development of a financial and economic model for the sugar industry, including the feasibility of ethanol production, at the Ministry of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries’ New Kingston offices yesterday (May 10). Commodity boards to be dissolved - Samuda

These commodity boards will now fall under the ambit of the recently enacted Jamaica Agricultural Commodities Regulatory Authority (JACRA). Samuda wants cassava cultivation to expand to 10,000 acres of land

Hon Karl Samuda, Minister of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries, says he wants to see 10,000 acres of former cane lands transition to the cultivation of cassava. He was speaking at the signing of a 25-year lease agreement between SCJ Holdings Ltd and Red Stripe for 247 hectares of lands located at Windsor Park and Worchester in St. Catherine for the expansion of cassava cultivation.
