Industry Minister Encourages Companies to Embrace Technology

Minister of Industry, Investment and Commerce, Senator the Hon. Aubyn Hill, is encouraging companies to embrace the use of technology across sectors for increased productivity, to meet international demand and drive Jamaica’s global competitiveness.
“The use of smart technology helps to streamline processes, automate tasks and optimise resource allocation across industries, such as manufacturing, agriculture, healthcare and logistics,” he said.
The Minister was addressing Smart Mobile Solutions (SMS) Group’s launch of its Smart Tech 360 system on June 20 at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel in New Kingston.
SMS is the primary distributor for Samsung in the Caribbean, as well as Lenovo products in Jamaica.
Senator Hill emphasised that the role of technology is vital to Jamaica’s digital transformation, and commended SMS for its innovative approach to providing solutions for local and regional companies.
Co-Founder and Managing Director, SMS, Dane Spencer, told JIS News that the launch of the company’s two new divisions, its Software Studio and Technical Services, will facilitate end to end service solutions for businesses.
“We are bringing these three companies together [SMS, Samsung and Lenovo] to bring a 360 solution. What this really means is that we implement the solutions, we provide the commodities, and we also develop software and different customised solutions to help businesses get a new workflow,” he said.
SMS is the first and only full service, non-carrier mobile support unit in Jamaica.
Their offerings include Mobile Device Management, Customised Software Solutions, and supplying Information and Communication Technology (ICT) equipment.
The company is making strides to increase their reach regionally and globally with their Miami operations in the United States.
SMS offers a wide range of hardware and software solutions to over 200 clients and a customer base of more than 14,000.
They are also the sole vendor of mobile handset protection plans in the Caribbean (Smart Protect).
