This year the theme for World Standards Day is Standards for SDGs – Our Shared Vision for a Better World. SDGs refer to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals which are at the centre of the United Nation’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development adopted by Member States in 2015. They replace the eight Millennium Development Goals which had been intended to reduce extreme poverty by 2015.
World Standards Day is celebrated annually on 14 October as standards bodies all across the world lead their countries in its observance and especially pay tribute to Technical Committee members. The international observance is coordinated by the World Standards Cooperation – a collaboration of the top three international standards organizations – International Electro-Technical Commission (IEC), International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
