Crafton Holdings Ltd., manufacturer and distributor of pasteurised liquid eggs has been impacting approximately 30% of traditional egg farmers in Jamaica. This was disclosed by Minister of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries, Hon. Karl Samuda.
According to Minister Samuda, he is comforted by this knowledge as this offers an assurance that our farmers, especially the small players in the industry, have a ready market for their eggs.
“This is a great opportunity for our small egg farmers. This also offers a great opportunity for growth in the egg industry, not only in Jamaica, but within CARICOM. Our objective is to move out from Jamaica into CARICOM for more lucrative markets and once we prove ourselves in CARICOM, and use CARICOM as a training ground for efficiency, it will give the organisation an opportunity to move out into the wider world”, the Minister said.
Minister Samuda who was on a tour of the Bayfarm Road facility on Friday, November 03, commended Damion Crawford, partner in Crafton Holdings Ltd., on the operations of the factory, which he said is well designed and is running efficiently.
In the meantime, Crawford informed that the company currently supplies liquid eggs to hotels and the baking sector in Jamaica, and to meet its supply commitments, has purchased and put in operation its own egg farm in Rosend, St. Mary.
He further informed that the company now employs 9 persons at the Bayfarm Road factory,
and 16 on the farm.
Crafton Holdings Ltd., went into the liquid eggs business after purchasing the assets of Caribbean Egg Processors Ltd., a former joint venture between Caribbean Producers Jamaica and the Jamaica Egg Farmers Association.
