MIIC URGES BUSINESSES TO PRIORITISE SAFETY AND PREPAREDNESS AS TROPICAL STORM MELISSA APPROACHES

The Ministry of Industry Investment and Commerce, Jamaica’s Business Ministry, is urging all Jamaican businesses, entrepreneurs, and investors to take every precaution as Tropical Storm Melissa approaches the island. Companies are advised to ensure the wellbeing of staff, secure facilities and equipment, safeguard vital records and systems, and maintain clear communication with employees and local authorities to minimize disruption and enable a swift return to normal business operations.
Senator the Hon. Aubyn Hill, Minister of Industry Investment and Commerce, stated “Our first duty is to protect our people, workers, teams, and families. I am asking every business owner to ensure that safety is prioritized. Secure your premises, secure your data, and make sure your employees are safe. Jamaica is a resilient nation. When the storm passes, we must be ready to return quickly to full productivity. That’s how we keep our economy strong and our country moving forward.”
While forecasts indicate the possibility of heavy rainfall and flooding in parts of the island, the Ministry underscores that proactive planning today will determine how quickly Jamaica’s business sector rebounds.
The Ministry of Industry Investment and Commerce, along with its 20 agencies, stands ready to support businesses and will continue to share advisories through its official channels. With discipline, confidence, and the unrelenting spirit of the Jamaican people, we will keep Jamaica moving forward.
