Minister Shaw attends 12th China-Latin American and Caribbean Conference in Zhuhai, China

Minister of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries, Hon. Audley Shaw, left the island earlier this week to represent Jamaica at the 12th annual conference of China – Latin America and Caribbean Countries being held in Zhuhai, China.
Minister Shaw today addressed the Conference and highlighted Jamaica’s growing economic relationship with China, including major infrastructural projects such as highways and road construction, housing developments and revival of the bauxite/alumina sector.
In his address, Minister Shaw cited Jamaica as a strategic location in the western hemisphere to become a major logistics hub for the manufacturing and assembly of goods for sale.
Minister Shaw also cited Jamaica’s major role as a premier tourist location and noted the fast growing business processes outsourcing sector, naming Jamaica as the 3rd largest English speaking country in the western hemisphere. He also said that Jamaica is the most mature financial market in the Caribbean region.
Minister Shaw will, on the weekend, join colleague Minister Daryl Vaz and JAMPRO executives at the China International Import Expo (CIIE) 2018, a major trade show in Shanghai, China.
Minister Shaw is accompanied in Zhuhai by HE Antonio Hugh, Jamaica’s Ambassador to China and Mr. Nicholas Sutherland, New Market Development Manager of JAMPRO.
