Public sector bodies required to accept electronic signatures as of September 1
MIIC Author
The Ministry of Finance says all public sector bodies will be required to accept electronic signatures from September 1, under a new government policy.
The ministry says implementation will be phased, based on the level of risk associated with different transactions.
Heads of public sector bodies and accounting officers will be responsible for ensuring that transactions eligible for electronic signatures are properly documented and approved.
The ministry also requires each agency to maintain a register identifying the types of transactions for which electronic signatures can be used.
These include internal memos, application forms, invoices and payment vouchers.
The register must also indicate the value of the transactions and the type of electronic signature being used, including image-based signatures and self-signed digital certificates.
