Samuda wants JBDC locations in all parishes

Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries Minister, the Hon. Karl Samuda is calling for an expansion of the services currently provided to the small business sector.
To this end, Mr Samuda said, the Jamaica Business Development Corporation (JBDC) should “establish locations in every parish, where prospective young players in the small business sector can get advice.”
The Minister was speaking this morning, April 12, at the launch of the JBDC programmes for 2017, where he urged the Corporation to ensure that its identity was “more clearly recognizable by every single player in the small business sector.”
Congratulating the Corporation on its work over the years, Minister Samuda, noted plans to expand the JBDC’s mobile business clinics to two units, serving six parishes.
The Industry and Commerce Minister stressed the importance of training in start-up activities, understanding of financial management and the access to cash to ensure the success of small businesses.
“Cash in a small business,” Minister Samuda declared, “is king! Access to ready cash enables a small business to take advantage of the opportunities that come.”
The JBDC is an agency of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries which provides business development and advisory services to the Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector in Jamaica.
It is estimated that classified tax-paying MSMEs account for over 90 percent of all classified tax-paying enterprises in the island.
