Gov’t Moves to Eradicate Frosty Pod Rot Cocoa Disease

Minister of Industry Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries, Hon Karl Samuda on Thursday September 29 officially launched Government’s action to eradicate the Frosty Pod Rot of Cocoa Disease which recently emerged in the island. First suspected to be present in the parish of Clarendon, Frosty Pod Rot attacks the pod of the cocoa and leads to rotting within 3 months and it is estimated that the disease could result in crop losses of up to 80% of the cocoa tree’s production. Innovators Urged to Protect Their Property

Applicants for the National Innovation Awards are being urged to protect themselves and their property. The competition, which invites innovators in various fields of science, technology and innovation, requires that applications bear the Jamaica Intellectual Property Office (JIPO) seal. Standard to be Developed for Imported Sugar

The Bureau of Standards Jamaica (BSJ) is to create a standard to effectively protect the local sugar industry from illegally imported sugar. This disclosure was made by Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries Minister, Hon.
