Government is seeking investors to take over the Monymusk Sugar Factory in Clarendon, following the decision of Pan Caribbean Sugar Company to cease operations of the estate in 2018. Minister Samuda warns against illicit burning of sugar cane

The Government has completed the standards governing the packaging and labelling of brown sugar. The Compulsory Standards (Declaration of Standard Specification) (Brown Sugar [Revised]) Order, 2016 was signed by Minister of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries, Hon. Ministerial Order on Frosty Pod Rot of Cocoa Disease Withdrawn

Minister of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries, Hon Karl Samuda has withdrawn the Ministerial Order for the Frosty Pod Rot of Cocoa Disease (Moniliophthora roreri) that was issued in late September under Section 3 of the Plants Quarantine Act 1993. The lifting of the Order follows the recommendation by the Plant Quarantine/Produce Inspection Branch of the Ministry to withdraw the Order for the entire island. No Evidence of Plastic in Rice Samples Tested So Far

The Bureau of Standards Jamaica has indicated that there is no indication of contamination in the fifty- five (55) samples of rice that it has tested to date. The samples of both cooked and uncooked rice were collected from nine (9) locations across the island and included those taken from a complainant who appeared in a CVM TV news report on Friday, December 16.
