Minister of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries, Hon Audley Shaw, has endorsed the 4th staging of the CanEx Jamaica Business Conference and Expo to be held September 26-28, at the Montego Bay Convention Centre.

He notes that the hosting of the conference is an important feature in educating Jamaicans about the real opportunities available in the cannabis industry that is taking off across the world.

“I think the hosting of this conference comes at an appropriate time when we are on a learning curve. This event is an important feature for all of us because, as entrepreneurs, it will enable us to engage and get involved in this fast growing global industry. We have a train that is leaving the station and, we cannot afford to be left behind in this lucrative cannabis industry,” the Minister said.

Minister Shaw was speaking at the media launch for the CanEx Jamaica Business Conference and Expo at the Spanish Court hotel, Worthington Avenue in New Kingston, on Wednesday (September 4).

He stated that Jamaica has a lot of work to do in regards to the cannabis industry in a very short time.

“I must commend the Cannabis Licensing Authority (CLA) on the aggressive work it has been doing towards improving the local landscape for cannabis companies and our attractiveness to investors. You have changed gears and, we have had to help you in that process in terms of appropriate financing. This is not a Jamaica platform anymore, we have a global platform on which we have to operate, which means, the standards have to change and, we have to begin to do things at globally accepted standards,” he added.

Meanwhile, Founder of CanEx Jamaica, Douglas Gordon said that the cannabis industry is brand new and has huge potential as a way of giving people improved living.

“We have the opportunity with this industry to change people’s lives through the economic benefits that it can deliver. It would be a travesty if we were not able to collaborate and really move this industry forward. Empowering people who have lived with huge income disparity, the opportunity to go out there and earn their own ticket. I think this is something that should not be overlooked. I hope we can come together, look at and, understand the bigger benefits that can be achieved,” Mr. Gordon added.

The CanEx Jamaica Business Conference and Expo, a business-to-business (B2B) event, will bring together cannabis industry professionals from over 30 countries across North America, the Caribbean, Europe, South and Central America and Africa to discuss the latest advances in the medicinal, health/wellness, legal, regulatory, business and investment landscapes.
