Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries Minister, Hon. Audley Shaw has issued an appeal to business process outsourcing (BPO) company, Ibex to assist with the training of local managers for the industry.
Addressing the official opening of the company’s third location, at the Courtleigh Auditorium on St. Lucia Avenue in New Kingston on September 4, Mr. Shaw assured Ibex’s principals that the labour force would be responsive if such an investment were to be made.
“ It is one of the reasons that when Jamaicans migrate, no matter where they go, the United States, Canada and England, we stand out because we are responsive to the (changing) environment, training and human development once we get the opportunity,” the Minister said.
He made the appeal following an announcement made by Chief Executive Officer of Ibex (CEO) Bob Dechant that plans are being made to include 500 management jobs in its overall employment plan of 4,500 strong employees by year end.
This is being facilitated by the 300 agent seats being created between its Portmore, St. Catherine location and its newest location in New Kingston at the Courtleigh Corporate Centre.
The expansion represents a commitment Mr. Dechant made to Prime Minister the Most Hon. Andrew Holness in 2017 to bring 5,000 jobs to Jamaica within five years.
“We are bullish on Jamaica for three reasons. The first is the talent of the people which is exceptional and it holds itself toe-to-toe with the talent on a global basis; secondly the support of the Government and thirdly the proximity to the United States. Put these things together and you have a recipe for success and repeated success,” Mr. Dechant said.
President of the Jamaica Promotions Corporation, Diane Edwards, in her remarks, assured stakeholders that the BPO sector is here to stay.
She explained that JAMPRO is working on its Inter-American Development Bank Funded Global Services Sector Project that will among other things, help certain companies to train and upskill their staff.
Headquartered in Washington DC in the United States, Ibex is a leading end-to-end provider of technology-enabled customer lifecycle experience (CLX) solutions. With its CLX platform, the company’s solutions range from handling 60 million customer interactions yearly for its clients from onshore, offshore and nearshore locations.
