Jamaica’s youth farmers, agri-preneurs and agricultural students, between the ages of 18-35 years are encouraged to share their perceptions and experiences, and make recommendations for a better agricultural sector by participating in the Youth in Agriculture Policy workshops being organised by the Ministry of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries in partnership with Promotion of Regional Opportunities for Produce through Enterprises and Linkages (PROPEL).

The second Workshop in the current series of three is to be held on Wednesday, December 7, 2016 in St. Elizabeth at the Jamaica 4-H Parish Office, starting at 10 a.m.

The third is to be held on Tuesday, December 13, 2016 in Portland at the College of Agricultural Science and Education (CASE), also starting at 10:00 a.m.

The first workshop was held on Tuesday, December 6 at the RADA Parish office in Manchester.

In keeping with the Government of Jamaica’s development agenda, the Youth in Agriculture Policy aims to provide a framework for:

• Creation of a strategic plan for youth involvement in the sector
• Creation of specific guidelines for access to land and other resources
• Youth participation in the sector’s policy decisions
• Youth in agriculture education
• Coordination of rural and agriculture youth related activities
• Funding for rural and agriculture related programme(s)
