Government Committed to MSME Development

Several initiatives geared towards development of the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise (MSME) sector are being pursued across government during 2016/17. Government to Reduce Cess on Conch

The cess on local conch exports is to be reduced this year from US 75 cents per pound, to US 50 cents per pound. The announcement was made on Friday, May 6 by Minister of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries, Hon. Hon. Karl Samuda, Minister of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture & Fisheries (left) yesterday met with Executive Director of the International Trade Centre (ITC), Ms. Arancha González in the surroundings of the 42nd Regular Meeting of the Council for Trade and Economic Development (COTED) being held in Georgetown, Guyana (April 21-22). Minister Samuda expressed appreciation to the ITC for its support in the development of Jamaica’s trade facilitation road map and project plan, and discussed several issues that are of mutual interest to the ITC and the Government of Jamaica. The ITC is a joint agency of the United Nations and the World Trade Organization (WTO), dedicated to making small and medium-sized enterprises in developing countries more competitive in global markets.
