The Ministry of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries has taken note of reports in some sections of the media of an alleged shortage of sugar in the retail trade. However, contrary to those reports, the Ministry and other stakeholders in the industry wish to reassure the population that there is no shortage of sugar in the island nor have there been any widespread complaints from consumers regarding an unavailability of sugar. 2017 – 2018 Conch Close Season begins September 1

The Ministry of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture & Fisheries, Fisheries Division hereby informs the public that the 2017 - 2018 Close Season for Conch will be in effect September 1, 2017 through to April 1, 2018. During this period the fishing of queen conch is strictly prohibited by law.
