Shaw reiterates call for investments into specific crops

Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries Minister, Hon. Audley Shaw, is reiterating a call for investments to be made in the growth of certain fruit tree crops in order to reduce Jamaica’s high food import bill. The crops include soursop, guava and West Indian cherry. “We have the climatic conditions and the established historical conditions that we can produce them on a large industrial scale,” he said. It's mandate is to lead the development of policies that will create growth and jobs, while achieving social inclusion and consumer protection. The Ministry, working its stakeholders is primarily responsible for business policy development, monitoring and evaluation, while giving direction and oversight to a cluster of implementing departments and agencies.
